MarineShift360 Academic Outreach

Empowering the Next Generation of Marine Sustainability Leaders

The future of the marine industry depends not only on innovation but on education. The MarineShift360 Academic Outreach Programme is designed to bring real-world sustainability tools, knowledge, and challenges into academic institutions. Equipping students, researchers, and educators to lead the industry’s transition to a better future.

By partnering with universities and academic programmes, MarineShift360 enables students to engage directly with lifecycle assessment (LCA) tools and sustainability strategy through workshops, group projects, internships, and research opportunities. This initiative helps bridge the gap between academic learning and industry application—creating a stronger, more informed generation of marine professionals.

Together, we can embed sustainability into the future of marine design, engineering, and decision-making.

Building capacity for long-term change through hands-on engagement with real-world tools and industry projects. Providing students with experience that prepares them to make measurable impact from day one of their careers.

What The Program Includes

  1. Access to LCA Tools & Training
Universities gain access to MarineShift360’s professional-grade Life Cycle Assessment tool, along with tailored training to integrate it into student coursework, projects, or research. Whether for final-year design modules or postgraduate dissertations, the tool empowers students to model and measure environmental impact in a practical, data-driven way.
  2. Guest Lectures & Professional Development Workshops
MarineShift360 offers expert-led sessions on lifecycle thinking, sustainable design, and systems-level impact. These workshops can be delivered virtually or in-person and are suitable for undergraduate, postgraduate, and professional learners.
  3. Group Project Intergration
We work with course leaders to embed live sustainability challenges into group project briefs. Students get to tackle real industry problems using our methodology and tools—bringing value both to their education and to the participating companies.
  4. Internship and Placement Opportunities
Top-performing students have the opportunity to apply for internships through the MarineShift360 Impact Accelerator, working alongside marine companies to implement sustainability projects and gain practical industry experience.
  5. Careers Fairs, Competitions & Industry Events
MarineShift360 engages in campus events to inspire students to pursue careers in marine sustainability. We also collaborate on project showcases, such as design shows or innovation competitions, to highlight outstanding student work.

Who We Work With

Our academic outreach programme is open to:

  • Universities with marine engineering, naval architecture, design, or sustainability-focused programmes
  • Lecturers and researchers seeking to integrate sustainability tools and thinking into their modules
  • Students and recent graduates looking to build careers in marine sustainability
  • Industry bodies or networks promoting sustainability education in the marine sector

Why It Matters

To drive long-term, systemic change in the marine industry, we need a workforce that understands sustainability not as an add-on, but as a core part of every decision. By embedding lifecycle thinking and environmental impact analysis into education, we’re shaping professionals who will design better boats, build smarter systems, and lead with purpose.
